About Murray

Worship leader, guitarist, and singer songwriter, Murray Forbes is an Edmonton-based multi talented, seasoned musician who has played lead guitar and bass in rock, blues, country and gospel bands frequenting many clubs, venues and churches in western Canada.

Forbes attributes much of his passion for worship as the inspirational result of a powerful spiritual experience he had during a worship conference in 1996. In 1998, while reading Psalm 86: 8-13 in preparation for worship leading, he was inspired to write music based entirely on the text. This was the beginning of what would become the Sword Songs project (a four-volume collection of 40 scripture songs of various genres) and over the next twelve months, he wrote 30 Scripture songs.

Sword Songs Volume I was released in the 2001 and in the years that followed, Forbes spent countless hours refining the next set of ten songs that would become Sword Songs Volume II.  Working with his longtime friend and co-producer Rob Hewes, he expanded his role from songwriter and musician to include lead vocalist, executive producer and engineer as he pursued his passion for this project.  The Mufo Studio was birthed out of his desire to be able to capture the essence of and further refine each Scripture song during home recording sessions full of writing, arranging and producing more and more Scripture.

Murray Forbes’ passion for worship and reverence for scriptural integrity is evident in each of his collections, the latest of which will be released in late 2021. For the past several years, since the 2013 release of SwordSongs Volume 2, he continued to work behind the scenes in The Mufo Studio to create the upcoming two volumes of the multi-genre Sword Songs project.

Forbes is well known in the community for his passion for supporting fellow artists, his deep baritone voice and down-to-earth demeanor. Despite his considerable presence, he is content to allow the lyrics of Sword Songs to speak for themselves. Indeed, they do.
